It Starts with the Basics

The Yamaha MT09 Tracer is already a impressive machine in its standard configurations. However, as any tech enthusiast knows, there's always room for improvement. The factory air intakes (velocity stacks) are designed as a compromise to account for different RPM ranges. This means they are partially optimized for both high and low RPMs, with shorter stacks for high RPMs and longer stacks for low RPMs. As a result, they don’t always perform optimally under specific conditions.

The Variable Intake Stacks

The variable intake stacks from VP Motorsport are designed to eliminate this compromise. They dynamically adjust the length of the stacks based on engine RPM. Here's how they work:

At lower RPMs: The stacks remain longer, with the upper and lower stacks nested together, creating a longer intake. This allows for a longer air pulse at that RPM range, resulting in more torque and a smoother power delivery, which is ideal for city driving and twisty roads.

At higher RPMs: The upper stack lifts, resulting in a shorter lower stack, allowing for a shorter air pulse. This leads to higher power output and quicker throttle response, which is crucial for high RPMs and speeds.
